Democrats to Hold Candidate Workshop

 The Sumner County Democratic Party plans to host a workshop for potential candidates in early December. Here's more on the workshop from the SCDP:

Are you curious about how local elections work? If so, we have an event for you! Come to our "Ready to Run? Information Session" on Saturday, December 4 at 10 am at the SCDP headquarters in Gallatin. Register now! 

We’ll provide an overview of the local election and campaign process, then have Q&A with past Democratic candidates. This event will get you ready to support local elections as a volunteer or ready to jump start your own campaign for local office! 

Meeting will be held in person at the SCDP Headquarters, so masks are required. We’ll also provide a link to view the event virtually upon request.

SCDP Announces Volunteer Opportunities

 The Sumner County Democratic Party announced a range of opportunities for those interested in supporting Democratic campaigns. Here's more from their email blast:

Visit our Volunteer! page or follow our Facebook page to see the many opportunities to help the SCDP and other TN Democrats throughout this election season.

Locally, the SCDP has immediate need for:
Welcoming Voters at Polling Sites - Greet voters at locations during Early Voting as well as on Election Day with signs, enthusiasm, and positivity. There are 2 shifts (morning and afternoon) at each Early Voting location and each precinct on Election day.  Call 615-442-6556 to sign-up for a shift, whole or in-part!

Official SCDP "Poll Watchers" - Register with the Sumner County Election Commission to officially observe the election processes on the behalf of the SCDP. You'll attend a county training session and receive official credentials. Call 615-442-6556 for more info.

Regionally, the SCDP has "adopted" Gloria Johnson in TN House District 13 and Jason Hodges in TN House District 67 for our support!  Please support their campaigns in place of local candidates this season.  Every vote can make the difference in these races!

Statewide, the Marquita Bradshaw campaign for US Senate has many easy ways you can help, include virtual Phone and Text Banking!

Sumner Democrats Promote 3 Star Event

 The Sumner County Democratic Party is promoting the Tennessee Democratic Party's 3 Star fundraising event, according to a recent email:

Each year, the TENNESSEE DEMOCRATIC PARTY celebrates the best of Tennessee at the THREE STAR CELEBRATION. This year is no different and we have so much to celebrate: the 100th anniversary of the ratification of the 19th amendment (Tennessee was the 36th state to vote yes and has been known since then as ‘The Perfect 36’), the 60th anniversary of the Nashville sit-ins and desegregation of downtown lunch counters, and our Democratic candidates and elected officials who represent the best of who we are.

Marsha Blackburn is smearing a decorated veteran of our armed forces to advance the GOP's conspiracy theories. This is embarrassing for Tennessee and not at all how we want to be represented.

Let's call her offices and demand that she issue a full, public apology to him. You can just say something like, "I'm calling to say Ms. Blackburn needs to issue a full public apology to Lt. Col. Vindman for smearing his good name on Twitter." Here are the phone numbers you need:

A message from SCDP

A note from the Sumner County Democratic Party:

The United States is a country built on immigration. Millions of immigrants took a bet on an America where it didn’t matter where you came from, what you look like or how your pray— but one where we believe in the rule of law, justice & equality.

The America so many of us, our parents or grandparents or great great grandparents, believe is the America where a Rashida, an Ilhan, an Alexandria, a Pramila or an Ayanna could — and should — lead. 

But this administration doesn’t believe in that America. The racist tweets by the president told four Congresswomen to “go back to the totally broken and crime-infested places from which they came.” But they are all Americans just like US. This racism echoes the kinds of things that people of color and New Americans in this country have been told by bullies and demagogues all our lives.

McKamey to Visit Sumner on Monday

Democratic Gubernatorial candidate John McKamey will visit Sumner County on Monday, May 19th.  He'll be available for a meet and greet at 6 PM at the Sumner County Democratic Party Headquarters on Long Hollow Pike in Gallatin.

McKamey is a former educator from Sullivan County who also served a term as Sullivan County Mayor.  The baseball field at Sullivan East High in Bluff City is named for the former teacher and coach.
