Common Core Forums Next Week

Following up on last month's forums on standards, Station Camp High Teacher and America Achieves fellow James Dittes in conjunction with Strong Schools will host two forums on Common Core next week.

The first will be held Monday, February 23rd at 6:00 PM at the Hendersonville Public Library.

The second will be held Tuesday, February 24th at 6:30 PM at Union Elementary in Gallatin.

These events are open to the public.

The forums are an opportunity for a guided discussion on Common Core and what it means for Sumner County Schools.

Education Forum on Thursday

Station Camp High School teacher and America Achieves Fellow James Dittes will lead a seminar on the importance of high standards. The seminar will be guided by an excerpt from Amanda Ripley's book: The Smartest Kids in the World and How They Got that Way. Strong Schools is proud to co-host this event.
Thursday, January 22nd - Hendersonville Library at 5:30
Tuesday, January 27th - Portland Library at 5:30
Thursday, January 29th - Gallatin Library at 5:00

Core Wars

Last week, School Board member Vanessa Silkwood offered a fairly weak attack on Common Core -- with arguments based more on scare tactics than facts. 

In response, there was a letter pointing out some of the facts Silkwood got wrong.

And then columns from James Dittes and Scott Langford offering a solid defense of the Common Core State Standards.
